How to Get to the Cowley Road Carnival
With around 50,000 people expected to come to the Cowley Road to join Oxford’s biggest street party it is best to plan your journey.
Getting there by foot, bus or bike is best.
Cowley Road road will be closed to traffic from 8am to 7pm from The Plain to Magdalen Road from approximately. Dawson Street, Chapel Street and Manzil Way will also be closed to traffic during the event.
The road is kept closed for as short a time as possible, and the Streetscene team handling the road clean-up operation work very hard to do the job as quickly and as efficiently as possible
Diversion signs go up well in advance to warn drivers of the road closure and the possibility of congestion on 1 July. Union Street car park (behind Tesco) will be closed to cars and open for Carnival activity St Clements car park will be open, but parking in the area will be very limited.
Additional bike lock areas will be provided opposite St Mary & St John Church, and on Union Street (leading to the Bulingdon Car Park behind Tesco).
Travel to carnival by bus. Get into the carnival spirit and join the party by bus.
Take your local Stagecoach service to Oxford city centre and change to route 1, 10 or 12. These services will be on diversion between Cowley Centre and The Plain via Church Cowley Road and Iffley Road, returning to normal route at Between Towns Road.
For the carnival, get off on Iffley Road and walk across to Cowley Road using Magdalen Road, Bullingdon Road, James Street or Circus Street.

Passengers should use stops along Iffley Road during this time and walk across to Cowley Road using Magdalen Road, Bullingdon Road, James Street or Circus Street.

Taxi Drop Off
Taxis can drop off at The Plain or Magdalen Road or if absolutely necessary, using other side roads leading to the Cowley Road. However, drivers should note that these side roads will be blocked by stewards with no vehicle access to the Cowley Road. It could be difficult to turn round.

Stagecoach can carry wheelchairs, disabled buggies and approved mobility scooters on suitable low floor buses subject to available space.
